A different get-away.

Monday, December 14th, 2009

Most probably, for an out of the country get-away, the country Iceland would be found at the end of your travel list. Who knows, maybe it won’t even fit in your get-away list. You would want warm waters to touch your overly-stressed body due to work, and the cool (but not zero temp!) breeze caressing your whole body while you lie down the shore.

But enough of that idea of paradise. There is a beach in Vik, Iceland wherein the abovementioned things aren’t present—in fact, it’s the exact opposite. Freezing temperature (an average of 32 F), very cold winds and… black sand. Yes, black sand. Technically, it’s not really sand since these are black basalt sea stacks (like the stalagmites in a cave).

Definitely, Vik’s the place to be if you’re in for an unforgettable beach surprise.

Living Beside the Beach

Thursday, August 14th, 2008

The beach is considered by many as an escape place especially during the summer season. Some people even consider living near the beach because of the amazing view. And it really is a nice place to live in. it is away from the city, a nice view, a cool and fresh breeze, it just makes you forget all you problems in life. So many people consider buying beachfront properties despite the high numbers involved in haivng or owning such property. So if you are a beach bum or a beach lover by nature, it’s really ideal for you to live near the beach so that anytime you are missing the beach, especially when you feel so hot and just want to cool- off a little bit, it’s already there in front of your patio. Living near the beach also takes away the time that you should have consumed in travelling.

Why Live in Malibu?

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

Beaches in Malibu are technically public land below the mean high tide line. Large public beaches (Zuma Beach, Surfrider Beach) are easy to access, but such access is sometimes limited in some of the smaller and more remote beaches. Although accessible by leisurely walk, public access is often addressed and debated by the City. More Malibu homeowners favor to limit public access to some beaches. They claim that many visitors are less likely to be residents that respect the beaches or private property.

Last 2007, Malibu experienced a very devastating wildfire. The Corral Fire destroyed 53 homes and burned 4,720 acres of land. It forced 140,000 people to evacuate their homes. A speculation of the origin of the wildfire was believed to have started as a result of human activity.

Malibu: A Way of Life

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

Malibu is an incorporated city in western Los Angeles County, California. It is a 21 mile strip of Pacific Coastline. It is a beachfront community famous for its warm and sandy beaches and movie star residents. Most residents live a few hundred yards of Pacific Coast Highway. Its beaches include Surfrider Beach, Zuma Beach, Malibu State Beach and Topanga State Beach. Its local parks include Malibu Bluffs Park, with neighboring parks Malibu Creeks State Park, Point Mugu State Park and the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. A neighboring beach Robert H. Meyer Memorial State Beach[ was once part of Old Malibu (before Malibu became a city), and better known as pristine beaches, El Pescador, La Piedra and El Matador.

Malibu was formerly settled by the Chumash, Native Americans. They named the town “humaliwo” or “the surf sounds loudly”. The name of the city was derived from this with the syllable “hu” is not stressed.

ipanema

Ipanema has been popularized by the song “A Girl From Ipanema” in the 60’s. It has been on the lips of beach lovers ever since then and it has been proven by the millions of tourists coming over the small region.

Ipanema is considered a busy, not to mention much more expensive than its neighboring beaches, region of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. High class restaurants, hotels and shopping stores have permeated the region and this has been beneficial for those who wish to enjoy the comfort of high living in the most loved beach in Rio de Janeiro.

Enjoy Ipanema!

daytona

Daytona is known world wide for its 24-hour endurance races held every year at the Daytona International Speedway in Florida. When those car races are being held, lots of people flock the area for some intense, mean, high-end car overload.

But apart from the Daytona International Speedway, Daytona is known for its beach. It has been branded as “the world’s famous beach” since almost 8,000,000 tourists flock Daytona every year. A wide variety of high-end hotels, motels, condominiums and the like are also found in the area. The tight security in the area also allows tourists to wander and see the beauty of the place, any time of the day.

Caribbean delight!

SMB

The Caribbean area is known for its fantastic beaches, well-preserved marine life (although artificial marine reef are present in some parts of the group of Islands) and delightful tourist spots like the black limestone formations in the Northwest of the Grand Cayman Island known as ‘Hell’ (because locals say that it pretty looks like hell!).

But of all the beaches present in the Island, the Seven Mile beach in the Western edge of the Grand Cayman stands out. It is crescent in shape and it has been voted as “Caribbean’s Best Beach” in the Caribbean Travel and Life Magazine. It is home to some of the magnificent hotels and restaurants of the Island. Loud music and public nudity (compared to the other beaches in the Caribbean Islands) are NOT allowed. Surely, you can bring your family to enjoy this Caribbean delight!

Island Cove treat.

Monday, March 31st, 2008

Ever get tired of going over the different advertisements, hoping to find some good, not to mention quiet, resorts or beaches to spend the summer? And finding out in the latter part of your search that the one you chose is overly polluted by fellow beach lovers?

Maira04

Worry not, Maira-ira is the answer to your prayers. It is an Island cove found in the Northern tip of the Philippines (Ilocos Norte), boasting of its fine white sand and clear blue waters. You could actually breathe in fresh air since its cottages are of Filipino-style, popularly known as the Nipa huts. You can order grilled fish for dinner or maybe fresh lobsters, whatever it is that suit your palate.
